Voicejar is a voice memo app that writes down what was said. Voicejar is made by JCOM LLC, 1309 Coffeen Avenue STE 1200, Sheridan, Wyoming 82801, United States ("we", "us"), which is the data controller for any personal data described in this policy. The short version: your recordings, transcripts and summaries stay on your iPhone. There is no account. The optional cloud features are off unless you turn them on, and the services behind them keep nothing.
What the app stores, and where
- Your recordings (the audio), their transcripts, summaries, titles and folders are stored on your device, in the app's private storage. Audio is written to storage while you record, so an interruption doesn't lose it. Like other app data, this is included in your device backups (for example iCloud Backup) if you use them. Voicejar does not sync it anywhere else. If you delete a recording or the app, it is deleted from your device.
- Your settings (spoken language, cloud switches, theme) are stored on your device.
- Transcripts and summaries made on your iPhone use Apple's on-device speech recognition and, on iPhones with Apple Intelligence, Apple's on-device language model. Voicejar asks for on-device processing only, so this audio and text stays on the device.
Permissions
- Microphone: to record. The app only listens while the recording screen is open and shows the time running.
- Speech recognition: to write down what was said, on your iPhone.
Optional cloud features (Voicejar Pro)
Voicejar writes down and summarises your recordings on your iPhone. Only if you turn on Cloud accuracy or Cloud summary in Settings, or tap a "…in the cloud" button and confirm, does Voicejar send data to our server at jcom.llc:
- Cloud accuracy: the audio of that recording, with silent parts removed.
- Cloud summary: the text of that transcript, without the audio. It is used only when your iPhone can't make the summary itself.
Our server passes it to OpenRouter (OpenRouter, Inc., United States), which routes it only to providers that keep no data and don't train on it:
- Microsoft (the MAI-Transcribe speech model) for transcripts.
- A zero-retention host of the DeepSeek summary model (currently DeepInfra or OpenInference, in the United States) for summaries.
The result comes back to your iPhone. Neither we nor they keep the audio or the text after the answer is sent; our server holds it only in memory, or in a temporary file deleted when the request ends. To apply fair-use limits, our server keeps a monthly usage count per purchase: a one-way hashed purchase number, the minutes and summaries used, and the times of recent requests. To check that you have Pro, the app sends Apple's signed purchase record. It identifies the purchase, not you: we don't receive your name, email or Apple Account.
Recordings can contain anything that was said, including health or other sensitive details. That is why the cloud is off unless you turn it on, and why each switch says exactly what is sent.
What else we collect
We do not collect names, email addresses, precise locations or contacts, and we never see your recordings, transcripts or summaries unless you use the cloud features above.
- Anonymous usage statistics and crash reports. To understand which features are used and to fix crashes, the app sends anonymous events to our own server (telemetry.jcom.llc), run by JCOM LLC. Examples: "recording saved", "export", "cloud transcript", onboarding steps, "paywall viewed", or which Voicejar Pro plan was started or bought. It also sends crash reports (Apple's diagnostic reports from MetricKit).
- They carry a random install ID that is not linked to any person, name or account, plus the app version, the iOS version, the language and the App Store country.
- They never contain audio, transcripts, summaries, titles or anything you said.
- They are not used for advertising or to build a profile.
- When a crash report arrives, the server also records the IP address it came from and the country derived from it, to find problems that affect a region; this is kept only as long as needed to fix the crash.
- We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting services.
- Server logs. Like any website, our server's standard access logs record the IP address and time of each request. They are kept for 14 days for security and then deleted.
- Purchases. Subscriptions and one-time purchases are handled by Apple. To check that a purchase is active, the app uses RevenueCat, a service that receives Apple's purchase receipt together with an anonymous app user ID and basic device information. Neither we nor RevenueCat receive your name, email or payment details. Manage or cancel in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions. We never see your Apple ID. The cloud features check Apple's signed purchase record, as described above.
- Email. If you write to us, we keep your message to answer it. We don't add you to any list.
What we don't do
- No advertising, no ad tracking, no selling or sharing of data with anyone other than the cloud providers named above, and only when you use the cloud.
- No account. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to log in to.
- No location, camera or contacts access.
Your choices and rights
- Keep everything on your iPhone by leaving Cloud accuracy and Cloud summary off (they are off by default).
- Delete a recording in the app, or everything by deleting the app.
- Turn off the microphone or speech recognition for Voicejar in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Turn off crash reports and analytics for all apps in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
- Where a law such as the GDPR (EU/UK) or the CCPA (California) gives you rights to access, correct, delete or port personal data, or to object to its processing, you can exercise them by emailing us. We do not sell or share personal data as defined by the CCPA. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Recording other people
Ask before you record other people. In many places the law requires their consent. You are responsible for what you record.
Data retention and security
Everything in the app stays on your device, protected by iOS device encryption, until you delete it. Cloud requests travel over HTTPS and are not kept after the answer. Usage counts are kept for as long as they're needed to apply the monthly limits. Anonymous usage and crash data is kept only as long as needed to understand and fix problems. Email is kept as long as needed to answer it.
Children
Voicejar is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. For meaningful changes, such as a new cloud provider, we'll mention it in the app's release notes.
